Purepac receives approval for Spironolactone tablets

Purepac Pharmaceutical Co., a subsidiary of FH Faulding & Co. Limited, has received FDA approval for its ANDA for Spironolactone tablets USP, 50 mg and 100 mg, the generic equivalent of Aldactone brand tablets marketed by Searle. Spironolactone is a pharmacological antagonist of the hormone aldosterone and acts as a diuretic and anti-hypertensive drug by this mechanism.

The product is indicated in the management of primary hyperaldosteronism and edematous conditions for patients with a number of conditions, including congestive heart failure.
