Drug Store News, Nov 22, 2004
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Food Lion, a division of Brussels-based Delhaize Group that operates more than 1,200 stores, has acquired 10 Winn-Dixie units in North Carolina and Virginia.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Food Lion stated that it paid for the stores in cash out of its planned 2004 capital expenditures budget.
In other Delhaize news, its Kash n' Karry division is preparing for the launch of Sweetbay Supermarket in Naples and Ft. Myers, Fla., in the coming months. The first Sweetbay unit opened earlier this month in Seminole, Fla.
All of the approximately 50,000-square-foot Sweetbay stores will have a pharmacy, noted Camille Branch, Kash n' Karry spokeswoman.
Over the next three years, the entire Kash n' Karry chain will transform to the new brand, and all new and remodeled stores will reflect the new concept and positioning.
