GlaxoSmithKline

Drug Store News, Dec 15, 2003 by James Frederick

The Food and Drug Administration approved GlaxoSmithKline's Advair Diskus 250/50 for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease associated with chronic bronchitis. It is the first FDA-approved product for treating COPD with chronic-bronchitis that contains both an anti-inflammatory (fluticasone propionate) and a long-acting bronchodilator (salmeterol).

In a separate matter, the FDA Nov. 14 alerted U.S. residents to the Canadian recall of GlaxoSmithKline's Ventolin Diskus, Flovent Diskus and Serevent Diskuzhjs. The FDA issued the warning to U.S. residents who may have obtained the medications through Canadian-based online or storefront operations. The products were recalled because the drug delivery system may not function properly.
