Drug Store News, Nov 29, 1999

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- drugstore.com made its print advertising debut in a 40-page Glamour magazine advertorial section earlier this month. Titled "Living Well In Y2K," the ad spread is almost equally divided between advertorial pages and advertisements created expressly for the section. Each page featured advice from a drugstore.com pharmacist or beauty expert, and Q&A specific to a particular product.

The advertising supplement reportedly cost the e-retailer almost $2 million. Glamour has a circulation of about 2.1 million.

drugstore.com plans to spend approximately $30 million on advertising next year, but has no similar projects in the works.

The Glamour ads are coordinated with special online promotions, which include discounts and free samples.
