Mass retailers are moving to distinguish their dietary supplement store brands through third party verification services. Kmart had its Vitasmart glucosamine and chondroitin supplement certified by NSF International, making it the first national retail brand to receive such certification.

Meanwhile, Costco Wholesale's entire Kirkland line of dietary supplements now carries the United States Pharmacopeia certification mark, effective Dec. 26.
