Photo Marketing Association

Drug Store News, Feb 16, 2004

The Photo Marketing Association found that the volume of prints from digital-still camera images increased 64 percent for the 12 months ended in November. For the same period, there was a 240 percent increase in digital images printed at local retailers--excluding kiosks--and a 639 percent increase in digital prints made using self-service kiosks.

In contrast, PMA found film processing declined 3.3 percent in 2002 and 6.2 percent in 2003. Film sales fell 3.4 percent and 8.1 percent, respectively. On-site minilabs captured a growing share of film processing. Fifty-three percent of specialty retailers operated digital minilabs in 2002, compared with 19 percent in 2001. Twenty-nine percent planned to add a digital minilab in 2003.
