Study sees support for Rx price controls

Drug Store News, March 7, 2005

MENLO PARK, Calif. -- In findings that must have sent shudders through the already embattled pharmaceutical industry, a new poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation found widespread public support for price controls on drug makers. The research, unveiled last month, indicates that 65 percent of Americans favor more government regulation of prescription drug prices.

What's more, nearly three-quarters of adults support allowing Americans to buy drugs imported from Canada, and 8-out-of-10 poll respondents favored changing the Medicare drug benefit law to allow the government to negotiate lower prices.
