Generic versions of AstraZeneca's Nolvadex (tamoxifen citrate) were brought to market last month. As many as six generic companies were given FDA clearance for tamoxifen following AstraZeneca's patent expiration Feb. 20, including Roxane Laboratories, Andrx Pharmaceuticals, Barr Laboratories, Ivax, Mylan Laboratories and Teva Pharmaceuticals.

Tamoxifen is indicated for the treatment of breast cancer. U.S. sales of the drug were about $500 million last year.
