Pet care vendors support animal protection

While many companies are making pet supplies that are eco-friendly, others are taking the approach a step further with products that raise awareness and funds for animal protection issues.

Sergeant's Pet Care teamed with the National Wildlife Federation to launch a line of pet toys based on protected wildlife from different regions of the earth. The line includes a green sea turtle, polar bear, jaguar and bison.

"By working with the National Wildlife Federation, we're able to bring awareness to endangered, protected and threatened animals from around the world," said Sergeant's Pet Care Products president Bob Scharf. "Now, just by giving their dog a toy from our new series, pet owners can help protect our planet in a fun and easy way."

JAKKS Pets is taking a similar approach through a licensing agreement it signed with The Humane Society of the United States. Starting this fall, JAKKS will sell a branded line of HSUS products, with a portion of sales going directly to the Humane Society and its animal-protection programs.

"We are proud to promote the well-being of animals with a percentage of all sales going toward the HSUS and its important programs," said Jack McGrath, executive vice president of operations for JAKKS Pacific. The line will include pet toys, leashes, bedding and grooming products.
