Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates

Drug Store News, June 6, 2005 by Michelle L. Kirsche

Wine Block boxed wines, crafted by Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates, introduced three new varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay, all with a suggested retail price of $9.99 per 1.5-liter box. The wine is made from 100 percent California grapes and is pack aged in specially designed wine bags that prevent oxygen transfer, reduce spoilage and increase the shelf life of the wine for up to six weeks after opening, according to the company.

"Wine Block is crafted especially for women, both working professionals and homemakers, who care about the quality of their wine, but also seek a quick, practical solution to opening and pouring wine, while they take care of business on the home front," said Lise Skaanild, Wine Block spokeswoman.

According to Wine Block, the growing trend toward boxed wines mirrors an increase in female wine consumers. A 2003 survey the Wine Market Council conducted found that women today account for more than 60 percent of the U.S. wine-drinking population.
