Ivax Corp. received final FDA approval for doxycycline hyclate 20 mg tablets, the generic equivalent of Periostat tablets, marketed by CollaGenex Pharmaceuticals Inc. for the treatment of bacterial infections and adult periodontitis. According to IMS data, 2004 U.S. sales of Periostat tablets and doxycycline hyclate 20 mg tablets totaled $51 million.

Ivax also received final FDA approval for gabapentin 600 and 800 mg tablets, the generic equivalent of anti-seizure medication Neurontin, marketed by Pfizer Inc.'s Warner-Lambert unit. According to IMS data, U.S. sales for gabapentin 600 mg and 800 mg tablets and Neurontin 600 mg and 800 mg tablets in 2004 totaled $1.1 billion.
