Bergen unveils Advantage Plus at expo

SAN FRANCISCO - More than 2,000 retail pharmacists attended Bergen Brunswig Drug Company's Annual Gift and Trade Expo held here last month.

Attendees got a chance to visit the more than 200 exhibit booths and attend dozens of educational seminars. (See related story page IP24.) More than 600 pharmacists were reported to have received C.E. credits during their visit to the show.

A highlight of the show was the unveiling of Bergen's Advantage Plus, a program whereby Bergen customers are able to order a variety of merchandise from a special catalog. Much of the merchandise featured in the catalog has not been available on a basis year-round. For example, through the Advantage Plus program, retailers will now be able to order season merchandise at just about any time during the year.

"The merchandise that the retailers were buying left no question in my mind that independent pharmacies are focusing on the front end of the store," said Leo Granucci, group vp of sales, Bergen Brunswig Drug Company. "I heard so many positive comments by pharmacists about their intentions to stimulate and expand product availability for their consumers."
