Products grabbing attention and sales in beauty care

Drug Store News, Sept 27, 1993

Manufacturers are constantly trying to reinvent their categories by launching innovative products. Retailers look for those rare smash items that will grow or rejuvenate a category--or even launch a product segment.

To keep retailers abreast of the activities within select beauty care categories, Drug Store News keeps an ongoing log of new product launches for the current and foreseeable future. The "New Product Watch" charts on this page are the latest installment in that series.

By viewing the "Comments" column in these charts, retailers can single out major launches from ordinary line extensions. Often, the launches show a trend in early development. Following a log of activity in the bath care category in early 1992, for example, it became abundantly clear that bath was entering a cycle of dynamic growth.

Once retailers and manufacturers spot a trend, they can act to maximize opportunities within the segment with confidence.
