Forty-four percent of women bought hair spray four times last year, but many manufacturers expect those numbers to drop as women embrace softer, more natural looking styles.
Interestingly enough, hair spray is one of the few items that women spend less money on than men. According to the Nielsen Household Panel, on average, women spent $1.43 per unit, compared to $2.44 per unit spent by men in the 12 months ending June 1994.

Promotions motivated women than men. In 21 percent of the cases, women bought hair spray on deal. For men, only 12 percent of the units purchased were on deal.
