AT&T Develops Dual Ringing Phone Service

AT&T Network Systems and Central Telephone Co. of Illinois are testing a potential new service that would make 2 or more telephones in different places ring when one of their numbers is dialed. The Service, tentatively called "dual ringing,' would ring a customer's cellular telephone when a call is placed to his or her office. Special computer hardware and software at points in the telephone network make services like dual ringing possible and service nodes will instruct the network on how to handle certain calls. BellSouth to Provide Cellular to Venezuela

A BellSouth-led consortium and the Venezuelan government signed a 20-year renewable concession agreement for the provision of nationwide telephone cellular service in Venezuela. The concession, which was initially approved in January, includes the right to build and operate a cellular network throughout Venezuela, including Caracas. Cellular service to Caracas will begin in September, with the other major cities receiving service by the years' end.
