Belgacom finds success with Motorola in-building system - Belgacom Mobile S.A

Belgacom Mobile is putting to good use an in-building system from Motorola Inc. [MOT], which it installed in the center of Brussels, Belgium. Motorola first installed the system in Belgacom's Brussels headquarters, but later expanded microcellular coverage to other buildings in the city's center. The installation not only provided better coverage, but increased capacity by shifting a bulk of traffic stressing the macrocellular network to the microcellular network underlay.

A Belgacom executive said the underlay allowed the carrier to address capacity and coverage concerns without any service disruption. (Laura Cain, Motorola, 847/632-3889.)
