South America: GTE signs Telefonica del Peruna to roaming service - GTE Telecommunication Services Inc
Mobile Phone News, August 10, 1998 by Malcolm E. Spicer, Ellen B. Mullally
GTE Telecommunication Services Inc. [GTE] (GTE TSI) announced that Telefonica del Peru (TdP) has signed an agreement for Access clearinghouse services. GTE TSI will act as the authorized receipt point for intercarrier exchange and settlement of roaming billing data between Telefonica properties in Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Peru.
Prior to this agreement, TdP offered its 400,000 subscribers one-way, manual roaming from Peru to the rest of South America with manual settlement between operators. To fully implement automatic, two-way roaming and clearing between Peru and all of Telefonica's other properties, clearinghouse services were necessary to manage the exchange of billing data between roaming partners.
