Coors to contribute to water quality project - Coors Brewing Co. in settlement over water pollution, Colorado - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included

The Coors Brewing Co. has agreed to pay $98,000 to help protect Clear Creek in a settlement over the release of thousands of gallons of beer and partially treated wastewater into the creek in August. The money would help create of a permanent repository for historic mine rock from Virginia Canyon and other areas that threatens water quality in Clear Creek.

It would be built at the Gem Mine site near Idaho Springs. Coors is paying about one third of the cost of the $300,000 facility. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced the settlement last week
