Honu beer sells out within four days

Modern Brewery Age, March 29, 2004

Honu Brewing Co. reports that it will continue production of Honu beer after the first 33,000-bottle batch sold out in four days. The company now plans to make the brand a year-round product. Named after the Hawaiian word for sea turtle, Honu Beer benefits the Honolulu-based World Turtle Trust, a non-profit organization that funds sea turtle conservation.

"We knew Honu Beer was a great beverage with a great cause, but we honestly underestimated demand," says Head Brewer Brett Porter. "Hawaiian retailers went out of their way to give Honu Beer valuable shelf space, and now the only place you can get it is my refrigerator. We obviously can't let this happen again."

Honu Beer is sold in a clear bottle, through which drinkers can spot a swimming sea turtle.
