Georgia Governor signs strong beer bill

Modern Brewery Age, May 24, 2004

Georgia wholesalers and retailers will get to sell stronger beer under legislation signed last week by Gov. Sonny Perdue. The new beer law allows the sale of beer with up to 14 percent alcohol content, more than twice the current six percent limit.

The issue had been debated by lawmakers for several years, pushed by advocates who complained that Georgia's current alcohol limits prevent the importation and sale of high-potency brews available in neighboring states.
