Rogue Ales lines up with the troops

Modern Brewery Age, May 30, 2005

In late March, the 2nd Battalion of the 162nd Infantry Regiment of the Oregon National Guard was demobilized after service in Iraq. While in Iraq, the unit was attached to the First Cavalry Division, and served in the area north of Baghdad. Twelve soldiers of the Oregon National Guard have been killed so far in the war.

During the ceremonies, Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski, Senator Ron Wyden and Congressman Peter DeFazio made speeches. Governor Kulongoski also helped distribute special edition bottles of Rogue Sunset Ale to the returning troops. Each soldier received a 22-ounce bottle of Sunset Ale, a Rogue pint glass and t-shirt. The labels on Sunset Ale depict a First Cav and Oregon National Guard soldier toasting with mugs of beer, alongside a depiction of the 162nd's regimental badge. The special ale was dedicated to the 162nd "Volunteers" on their return from Iraq.
