Grand Teton brews Double IPA

Modern Brewery Age, May 30, 2005

Grand Teton Brewing Company has introduced Double India Pale Ale, the latest in their "Cellar Reserve" series of specialty beers. According to the brewery, the IPA is brewed in the new American "Double" or "Imperial" IPA style, with twice as much malt and hops as Grand Teton's Sweetgrass IPA. The beer is dry hopped with American Cascade and Amarillo hops, and fermented to 7.5 percent alcohol by volume.

"The hops provide citrusy, resinous spiciness," says Marni Vasseur of Grand Teton, "making this beer a great match for any bold, flavorful food." According to Grand Teton, the Cellar Reserve series of beers are unique in that they are brewed with specialty grains and unusual ingredients. "They are also bottle and cask conditioned," Vasseur says, "which produces natural carbonation and mellows the flavors with age. These beers also have a long shelf life and don't have to be consumed fresh like the brewery's micros." Double IPA is available in kegs and unique brown litre bottles, silk screened with the Grand Teton Brewing logo. Each bottle has a special "Grolsch" top ceramic with a wire bale lid that has been sealed in colored wax. Double IPA will be available this month at select locations in Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. According to the company, Grand Teton Brewing will produce four beers a year in the Cellar Reserve line, and each will be unique. The production quantity is also very limited. The next Cellar reserve beer will be Baltic Porter. Grand Teton Brewing Company was founded in 1988 as the first modern "micro" brewery in the state of Wyoming. Today, owner Charlie Otto and his company produce almost 3000 barrels of beer a year.Their Old Faithful and Teton Ales are sold within Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, and their Sweetgrass I.P.A., Bitch Creek E.S.B. and Workhorse Wheat beers are sold throughout the mountain west. From their production facility in Victor, Idaho, Grand Teton Brewing Company beers are distributed on draft and in six-packs to accounts in Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, California and Utah.
