Illinois brewers create "Replicale" for American Beer Month

Modern Brewery Age, June 23, 2003

The Illinois Craft Brewers Guild has announced that it will celebrate American Beer Month with a beer dubbed "Replicale."

The brewery members of the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild, in conjunction with Mid America Brewing Supply, Hop Union Hops and White Labs, have joined forces to produce a signature ale that will be produced at different breweries statewide.

Participating Illinois breweries will be using identical hops and malt to brew the same American Ale. Each brewer will be allowed to use individual techniques and processes to make their own interpretation of the ale.

Each breweries variation on the ale recipe will be available for tasting at the First Annual American Beer Month Brew Fest to be held at America's Brewing Company in Aurora, IL on Saturday July 26th.

"Replicale" is the brain child of Todd Ashman, head brewer at the Flossmoor Station Brewing Company, Flossmoor, IL.

This year's recipe, dubbed "Illinois Common Ale" will be produced using Rahr Malting 2-Row Pale, Simpsons Crystal 50-60 and Briess 2-Row CaraPils [R] which have been supplied by Mid America Brewing Supply, Cluster hops from Hop Union CBS and San Francisco Lager yeast provided by White Labs.
