Change in EU-Bud story

Modern Brewery Age, August 9, 2004

In a June 29 Associated Press story about Budweiser beer, picked up by Modern Brewery Age, The Associated Press reported erroneously that a key legal opinion, put before the European Court of Justice, recommended that Budvar AS, the Czech brewer, be given trademark protection of Budweiser beer in Finland.

Instead, EU Advocate General Antonio Tizzano recommended that the Finnish supreme court should decide if Budvar has used the names 'Bud' or 'Budweiser' in a "trademark-like" fashion confusing consumers and violating rights to the Budweiser brand in Finland held by Anheuser Busch, the U.S. brewer.
