Katechis and his teammates--beer-canner "Fed Ex" Steve and longtime Dale's Pale Ale drinkers Scott Hicar and Mike Lebeaux--were the highest ranking amateur team in the four-person-team division of the event. There were 27 teams in the division. Katechis attributed his team's success to his canned beer. "Dale's Pale Ale is clearly the Gatorade of beers," Katechis says, "It powered our amazing success in the race." Teams in the race competed in non-stop, 24-hour bike race around a demanding, 7.24-mile course at Winter Park. Collectively, the Dale's team rode just over 200 miles in a 24-hour period. Katechis and his teammates rode Maverick brand bikes, made by Maverick American, in Boulder, Colorado. "It's the only mountain bike me and my boys will ride," Katechis says. "Like us, Maverick does amazing things with aluminum." He said attendees were treated to samples of fresh Dale's Pale Ale, poured from aluminum cans hand-filled at Oskar Blues Brewery, in Lyons, Colorado.
