Modern Brewery Age, August 20, 2001
Snyder International Brewing Group and Frederick Brewing Company Proudly announce the annual seasonal arrival of their Blue Ridge Hopfest Brown Ale, Since 1994, Frederick has HopFest, a fall seasonal celebrating the annual hop harvest, Each year, a different single hop variety is selected and used exclusively throughout the brewing process.
"As you night imagine, this is one very hoppy beer that celebrates all that hops can offer to a fine brown ale," says Frederick spokesperson Paul Abrams. "This year our Brewmasters, Andy Tveekrem and Stephan Danckers, have chosen to use the very special and aromatic Thomas Fuggles Variety of hops. They were easily the best Fuggles the brewery could find and were selected from lots of samples. They were grown on a small family farm in Herefordshire, England, where the Thomas's have been cultivating this traditional hop variety since 1893." According to the tasting notes, this year's Hopfest is "deep brown in color, with a wonderfully clean and malty aroma, with the unique q ualities of the Fuggles clearly present. These hops are subdued and complex with hints of hay and mint. The flavor is well-balanced with rich, dark malts, followed by a crisp finish."
