Modern Brewery Age, August 25, 2003
Organizers of the upcoming Master Brewers Association of the Americas Convention, Oct. 4-7 in Milwaukee, report that the city is ready for an onslaught of master brewers and their spouses.
According to MBAA's Jerry Hilton, "The convention technical program is outstanding and we want you to know that The Milwaukee Program for Spouses and Guests is a real winner!"
The MBAA spouse--guest harbor tour and lunch on Monday aboard the Edelweiss tour boat will provide a view of Milwaukee from Lake Michigan. Attendees can enjoy coffee, dessert and the view from the Hyatt's Polaris revolving rooftop restaurant!

The convention hotel is connected by skywalk to The Shops of Grand Avenue downtown mall. What's more, Boston Store will create a mini boutique just for MBAA guests and spouses during the Monday breakfast at the Hyatt.
Milwaukee's brewing heritage will be showcased during a customized slide presentation and city tour led by John Gurda, prize winning historian and author of the book The Making of Milwaukee.. One of the highlights of John Gurda's tour will be a visit to the Pabst mansion built in 1892 for brewery baron Captain Frederick Pabst. Captain Pabst's home is known as the finest Flemish renaissance revival mansion in America, boasting 37 rooms, 12 baths and 14 fireplaces. It was considered the crown jewel of Milwaukee's famous avenue of mansions and helped make the 1890's the "Pabst Decade" in Milwaukee.
During the convention, the Pabst mansion will be hosting a special exhibit titled "What'll You Have?" This is a collection of rare and often comical advertising campaigns and beer memorabilia from throughout the 20th century including promotions for Pabst, Miller, Blatz and Schlitz.
The spouse/guest city tour will also include a visit to St. Josephat's Basilica, a magnificent 102-year-old Milwaukee landmark modeled after St. Peter's in Rome. Tuesday's lunch will be at the Milwaukee Ale House situated on Milwaukee's newly designed river walk.
Attendees on site Saturday night will have a chance to visit the AleHouse and 3 more brew pubs on the MBAA pub-crawl. On Sunday afternoon MBAA will offer a pre-convention visit to Mil-waukee's newest landmark, the stunning Calatrava designed Milwaukee Art Museum on the lake.
The Sunday night "President's Reception Dinner" will feature German American cuisine and entertainment by the Milwaukee Liedertafel, a German singing group just returning from a concert tour in Europe. Monday night is open for you to try one of Milwaukee's many marvelous restaurants!
The closing "Installation of Officers and Awards Night Banquet" will be followed by "Big Band" style music provided by the 14 piece band The Airmen of Swing.
Hilton reports, "This is an outstanding convention promising "Gemutlichkeit in Milwaukee!"
