NBWA to present "share of mind" panel at Sept. convention

Modern Brewery Age, August 30, 2004

The National Beer Wholesalers Association reports that it will present a panel discussion titled, "Share of Mind," featuring beer, wine, distilled spirits and market experts at the upcoming NBWA convention.

"This discussion should not be missed by anyone who has a stake in the beer industry," said NBWA president David Rehr. "There's no doubt that distilled spirits and wine are fighting for a bigger share of the consumers mind and stomach. This panel will allow distributors to hear first-hand from leading advocates and industry experts what is happening in today's marketplace and what wine and spirits are doing to gain more volume.

This panel discussion will take place at the September 14 General Session and will be moderated by NBWA President Rehr.

The panel line-up includes:

* Peter H. Cressy, president & CEO, Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS).

* Robert Epstein, president, Horizon Beverage Company. The Horizon Beverage Company distributes distilled sprits, wine and beer. Mr. Epstein is the incoming chair of the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA).

* Bump Williams, executive vice president, Global Consulting, Information Resources Inc.

* Also, Harry Schuhmacher, editor, Beer Business Daily. For some time, Mr. Schuhmacher says he has been focused on this issue. "What are the factors competing for beer's historical share of mind?" he asks. "What must be done to gain growth in the beer segment? And, what can wholesalers do to meet new challenges?
