Sapporo, seeking to boost production efficiencies, has reported that it will close two of its eight breweries. Citing decreased demand for beer, the company said the closures would save the company five billion yen per annum. Sapporo's Hokkaido brewery will close in March, and its Saitama brewery will close in the fall of 2003.
