Tsingtao will build brewery in Taiwan - Brief Article

Modern Brewery Age, Sept 9, 2002

China's Tsingtao Brewery Co. will license a Taiwanese firm to build a brewery on Taiwan, the brewer's first plant outside mainland China.

Since Taiwan bans Chinese firms from investing on the island, Tsingtao will authorize its Taiwanese sales agent--San Yo Pharmaceutical--to set up the brewery in southern Taiwan, said Tsai Ching-fu, San Yo v.p. Tsingtao entered the Taiwanese market in April and has a 7.5 percent market share, Tsai said.

Tsingtao said it will give San Yo technical assistance and the right to use its brand name. "Once the restriction on direct investment in Taiwan is lifted, Tsingtao shall have the option to subscribe to shares in the new brewery," a spokesperson said.
