Portland Brewing Co

Modern Brewery Age, Nov 15, 1999

Portland Brewing Co. of Portland, OR, has released the first batch of its new seasonal, called BobbyDazzler Old London-Style Holiday Ale. "Our goal was to craft a winter seasonal unlike anything on the market," says Fred Bowman, founder of the brewery. "In ever way, BobbyDazzler succeeds. It's a bold ale that's full of holiday cheer." According to brewer Brett Porter, BobbyDazzler features five malts and four separate hop additions.

"This was a challenging beer to brew," he says. "Because of the high original gravity, we have to use wort from two separate mashes to fill our kettle. As a result, it takes nearly twice the time and twice the malt to make a single batch. To match our extravagant use of malt, we hop BobbyDazzler with almost two pounds of hops per barrel," Note: According to the Oxford English Dictionary, BobbyDazzler is a word meaning "a remarkable or excellent person or thing."
