A small Colorado town courts Asahi - Weekly Speciality Beer Report - Greeley, Colorado seeks deal with Asahi Breweries Ltd - Brief Article

Modern Brewery Age, Feb 4, 2002

Officials in Greeley, Colorado have said they will work to persuade a large Japanese beer company to open a brewery in their town.

Greeley city council members Debbie Pilch and Carrol Martin said they will pitch the idea of a Greeley brewery to Asahi Breweries next month when they travel to Japan for a ceremony honoring Moriya, Greeley's sister city and site of an Asahi brewery. Greeley Water & Sewer Director Jon Monson said the city can offer Asahi plenty of water because of Greeley's rights to runoff in the mountains 30 miles west.

Pilch said the idea of trying to attract Asahi came when she and Monson toured an Asahi brewery last spring. "As we were going through, the tour guide said Asahi is always looking to expand internationally, and we looked at each other and said, 'Hmmm, this is interesting'."
