Two famed German breweries to shut down

Modern Brewery Age, Feb 14, 2005

Two well-known German breweries--Kindl in Berlin and Brinkhoff in Dortmund--will close soon, according to reports from Deutsche Presse-Agentur. The owner of the two breweries is Dr. Oetker, the food and beverage group that took over Brau und Brunnen last year. Oetker has two breweries in each city, and announced it would close one brewery in each market.

Oetker said the brands from the shuttered breweries will continue to be produced. The Brinkhoff production will move next year to Oetker's DAB brewery in Dortmund. Kindl will be brewed at the Schultheiss brewery in Berlin. The group said it would invest 50 million euros (65 million dollars) in modernization while eliminating 275 jobs.
