A-B's Metal Container Corp. to build new plant

Modern Brewery Age, July 19, 1993

The Metal Container Corp., the can manufacturing unit of Anheuser-Busch Co.'s, has announced that it plans to build a new beverage can manufacturing plant in Riverside County, California.

The company said that construction is scheduled to begin in August, with operations expected to begin in early 1995.

The new facility will be located in the Mira Loma Commerce Center, and will have three high-speed can lines.

In addition to supplying cans to softdrink producers, the company said it currently supplies about 40 percent of the A-B Van Nuys brewery from its existing plant in Carson, CA. According to an A-B spokesperson, "This new plant will enable our company to expand services to the Van Nuys brewery."

The company said that its Carson facility will be closed after the new plant begins production in 1995. About 90 percent of the existing employees will be offered jobs at the new location, and A-B said it will attempt to place the remaining employees at 10 other metal container plants around the country.
