In his new position, Barghaus will be responsible for overseeing strategic planning, finance and administration, and new volume acquisition. Barghaus joined Labatt in 1989, after spending many years in management roles at the American Can Co., Arthur Andersen Consulting and May Department Stores. He holds a bachelor of science degree from Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from Cornell University.
David Yale, Labatt U.S.A. v.p. of marketing also announced four executive promotions in his department:
* Steve Hauser has been named director, Canadian brands, with responsibility for Laban Blue, Labatt Ice, Labatt Copper and Kokanee. Steve is an 11-year veteran of the imported beer industry. Prior to joining Labatt, he served with the Guinness Import Co.

* Mark Thiese has been named director, Mexican brands, and will be responsible for Tecate, Tecate Light, Bohemia, Carta Blanca, Chihuahua, Sol and Penafiel water. Mark came to Labatt from the Wisdom Import Sales Co., when the two companies merged in 1994.
* Clement Pellani has been made director of new product development. In this assignment, Pellani will focus on leading new product initiatives and evaluating acquisitions and joint ventures. He will also oversee development of the Anchor Steam business, which was formerly handled by Wisdom Import Sales. Pellani previously worked in marketing the Labatt and Rolling Rock brands, and did a stint as director of sales and marketing for the New England Brewing Co., a Connecticut microbrewery. Pellani is a graduate of the Siebel Institute.
* Michael Sands has been promoted to senior brand manager, Rolling Rock brands. He had been brand manager on the business since 1992, helping in that brand's rapid ascension. Prior to joining Labatt, Sands worked at Van Den Burgh Foods on the Ragu account, among others.
