Ah, Technology

Wines & Vines, Dec, 2000 by Philip E. Hiaring

It's not every day we get news releases via the Mojo wire on electronic nose technology! But, ta-da, there it was one day in September. It seems, per the release, that Electronic Sensor Technology LLP announced its zNose[TM] can detect 2, 4, 6 trichloranisole (TCA) in wine aroma at part-per-trillion levels in 10 seconds! (Emphasis theirs).

Can a human pick up odor at parts-per-trillion? I dunno. For a non-scientific mind like mine, I question the value of detecting anything at that level unless the human equipment, such as the common nose, can also detect that particular entity.
