Terrale 2000 Primitivo

Wines & Vines, Feb, 2003

Hailing from Puglia, in the "heel" of Italy, the Terrale Primitivo has a deceptively vegetal nose that's a bit off-putting at first. Luckily, it tastes much better than it smells. The wine, which is fermented in stainless steel or glass-lined cement tanks and aged six months in oak, has a pretty garnet color and smooth raspberry/strawberry flavors with a touch of earthiness.

Case production: 45,000.
