Wines & Vines, Feb, 2003

Wines & Vines contributing editor J. Patrick Dore died suddenly on Jan. 11 at his home in Novato, Calif. Born March 18, 1942, Pat entered the wine business as a clerk in a San Francisco wine shop and worked his way up to many high-level positions in the wine industry. In 1981 he founded Coastal Wines, Ltd., a wine distribution and marketing company, and later created the J.

Patrick Dore wine brand. In 2002, Pat founded Wine Brands of California and the Victoria Street wine series. Pat believed in living life to its fullest, as demonstrated by his love of fishing, cooking, biking, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. "Pat was a master marketer, as reflected in his column," said Wines & Vines president and CEO Dottie KubotaCordery. "It was a pleasure to work with him over the years; we will miss him." He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 34 years, and two daughters, Pam and Kim Dore. A memorial was held on Jan. 19 at St. Rita's Church in Fairfax, Calif.
