The Pinot diet

Wines & Vines, March, 2004

The Pinot Diet. With all the Atkins-crazed dieters out there, it was only a matter of time before someone addressed the issue of "carbs" in wine. On Sutter Home's Web site (sutterhome.com), a chart details the number of calories and carbohydrates found in various wines. For example, the winery's Chardonnay contains more carbs than its Sauvignon blanc, and the Pinot noir weighs in with the lowest number of carbs at 2.5 grams.

Calorie-wise, Sutter Home's Gewurztraminer ranks highest at 105 calories per 4-ounce glass, (or should we say half-a-glass?), while the White Zin ranks lowest at 80 per serving. Overall, Pinot noir seems to be the best choice for carb and calorie counters, and who are we to argue?
