Petite Sirah

Wines & Vines, April, 2001 by Philip E. Hiaring

Should a person be curious enough to wonder what a Petite Sirah should taste like, go no further than the Foppiano 1998 from Sonoma County. In a few words, it's complex with pepper and spice, it's smooth and the finish lingers. The a.c. was reined in at a very nice 13%. The cooperage of choice was two-year-old air-dried American oak barrels.

Substantial fare would seem to in order at the table. Loin of elk would be nice, as would a squirrel stew. The suggested retail is $19.50, a bit pricey, but hey, it's a Foppiano signature wine! Tasted 1/01.
