Research from UC Davis indicates that pesticide use in Napa County vineyards has decreased 40% during the past decade, despite an increase in planted vines. Researcher Minghua Zhang said the average amount of pesticides used decreased from 5 pounds to 3 pounds per acre. Sulfur use also was reduced by 49%, according to Zhang.
