Weapons of mass consumption

Wines & Vines, June, 2003

Yes, it's really true--the 7-Eleven convenience store chain is planning to sell its own brand of wine. (No, it's not called Big Glut; it's called Regions, silly!) With the help of Winery Exchange, 7-Eleven will offer an Australian Chardonnay and an Italian Pinot grigio, available this August for $4.99 per 375ml bottle.

(Not as cheap as you'd expect from a store that specializes in such gourmet items as Slurpees and sweaty hotdogs.) We can just imagine the convenience store food-n-wine pairings that will ensue...does 7-Eleven Chardonnay go better with Velveeta-covered nachos or beef jerky? We can't wait to find out!
