CWC Aids Children's Hospital

Wines & Vines, July, 2001

In May, the Congressional Wine Caucus (CWC) sponsored A Vintage Affair, a charity wine auction that raised $429,000 for the Children's Notional Medical Center. The auction, which was held in Washington, D.C., included wine country trips, a comprehensive California wine trip and a tour of the Robert Mondavi Winery.

"This wine auction benefits the American wine industry as well as Children's Hospital," said Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.), co-chairman of the CWC. "Our goal in the Congressional Wine Caucus is to raise wine's profile in the nation's capitol. This successful wine auction gives a great boost for thousands of children in need of quality health care."

The CWC is a bipartisan, bicameral organization of 138 members of Congress representing 38 states. The CWC provides information to its members about a wide range of federal issues impacting American winegrape growers and vintners. The CWC also conducts educational programs and tastings for its members, and occasionally hosts wine receptions.

Children's National Medical Center is one of the nation's preeminent providers of pediatric healthcare services. Children's Hospital enhances the health and well-being of children regionally, nationally and internationally.
