GWSS Inspection Program

Wines & Vines, August, 2001

As part of an on-going campaign to keep Napa County free of the glassy-winged sharpshooter, a vector of Pierce's Disease, the Napa County Agricultural Commissioner has implemented an inspection program for local nurseries and landscapers. Consumers are encouraged to purchase plants from retailers whose plants have been inspected and who display a green Certificate of Compliance.

Napa County's strict workplan requires nurseries and landscapers to report all incoming nursery stock shipments to the Agricultural Commissioner's office. Shipments are inspected by a member of the staff or released within 48 hours. if an insect or egg mass is found, the shipment is returned to the county of origin.

Green certificates featuring a Sharpshooter Spotter logo can be posted at a store or office to help consumers find compliant retailers. A list of compliant businesses is also posted online at bugspot.org.
