Riverside Wine Competition Releases Results

A $15 Sauvignon blanc from the Napa Valley and a $17 red wine from Australia were the big winners at the 20th annual Riverside International Wine Competition in May, a record-breaking event that attracted 2,136 entries from around the world, 417 wineries and 44 judges.

Winner of the prize for the best white wine was 2000 St. Supery Sauvignon blanc that previously was voted the best wine for the West Coast Wine Competition.

Best red wine of the show was the 1999 d'Arenberg Shiraz Grenache d'Arry's Original, from Australia. The runner-up for this award was Thomas Coyne 1998 Syrah, Livermore Valley, Detjens Farms.

Best sparkling wine of the show was from the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, best rose wine was 2000 Eberle Syrah Rose from Paso Rables in San Luis Obispo County and best dessert wine was a Muscat from Australia, imported to the United States under the Barwang label by Geyser Park.
