Cabernet vines burned in Marin County

Wines & Vines, Sept, 2002

A significant portion of the vineyard acreage in Mann County, Calif. went up in smoke July 30, according to reports in the Marin Independent Journal.

Corda Winery lost its entire Cabernet Sauvignon crop, between six and seven acres, when a fire swept through vineyards near the Sonoma County line. Merlot and Cabernet franc plantings were not affected.

Marin County, just south of Sonoma County, has only about 100 acres of vineyards, of which Corda owns about 50. In 2001, more than 228 tons of wine grapes were harvested in Marin.
