Rising gas prices prompt IRS to increase mileage rates through year-end

Beginning July 1, the optional standard mileage rates increased 8 cents for the final six months of 2008. The IRS made the special adjustment in recognition of recent gasoline price increases; it normally updates the mileage rates annually in the fall for the next calendar year.
