OPTIM, Inc., Sturbridge, Mass., a manufacturer of flexible endoscopic imaging products for medical and industrial markets, has sold its surgical illumination business unit to Techman International, Charlton City, Mass. Techman, which currently manufactures and distributes surgical microscopes, colposcopes and headlights to physicians and hospitals worldwide, purchased manufacturing and distribution rights to OPTIM's entire line of surgical illumination products. The product line includes fiberoptic light guide cables, surgical headlamps, illuminated surgical retractors, and halogen light sources. Dr. Mahmud Awan, president of Techman, said the sale provides his company with a broad platform that complements its existing products. OPTIM president and CEO Thomas V. Root said the spinning off of his company's surgical illumination business provides OPTIM with the opportunity to focus on the endoscopy business.
