Novation, Irving, Texas - Novation's agreement with Stryker Leibinger - Company Business and Marketing

Novation, Irving, Texas, the supply company of VHA Inc. and the University Health System Consortium, has signed a three-year, sole source agreement with Stryker Leibinger, Kalamazoo, Mich., a division of Stryker Corp., for maxillofacial products for adult and pediatric patients. The new agreement will run through August 31, 2002, and includes two one-year renewal options exercisable by Novation.

The agreement covers:

*   Cranio/maxillofacial surgical products
*   Biomaterials
*   Distraction devices
*   Hand/small bone products
*   Associated specialty surgical instruments.

Novation says the agreement will be worth approximately $30 million annually. Earlier this year, Novation signed an agreement with the Stryker Instruments division of orthopedic power tools. Novation has also signed three-year agreements with DePuy, Inc., Warsaw, Ind., a Johnson & Johnson company, Howmedica Osteonics, Allendale, N.J., and Zimmer, Warsaw, Inc., for hip and knee implants. Novation says it will pilot a hip and knee implant initiative as part of OPPORTUNITY, Novation's committed program. Current market size for implants in the U.S. is approximately $2.1 billion annually. Novation health care organizations perform approximately 40% of hip and knee implant surgeries in the U.S., purchasing $735 million in implants annually.

Picker International, Cleveland, has announced a pair of agreements designed to move the company to the forefront of the Very-High-Field (VHF) imaging business. The company said it has completed the acquisition of the imaging business of Surrey Medical Imaging Systems, Ltd. (SMIS) of the United Kingdom. SMIS has been a frontrunner in the development of technology for human whole body imaging systems. Tim Hansen, president of Picker Medical Systems, said the acquisition affirms the company's commitment to high field MR imaging and that the SMIS technology will keep the company on the leading edge of MR imaging for years to come. Picker also announced that it has extended its contract with Applicare Medical Imaging of the Netherlands through 2004. Applicare is the developer of the RadWorks[ordinal indicator, feminine] family of medical imaging software that Picker integrates into its portfolio of PACS products, from teleradiology to diagnostic review systems. Picker has integrated RadWorks software into its PAC systems since 1997, and will continue beta testing with the University of Utah and the University of Wisconsin.
