Health Industry Today, June, 1991

Carex Health Care Products, Newark, N.J., is marketing its new lightweight folding walker and push button aluminum crutch to hospitals, nursing homes and the home care market.

It uses dealers to call on all three markets, said Steve Higgs, executive vice president. Carex works with about 5,000 home care dealers, he noted. Its 13 sales reps, some manufacturers' reps and three telemarketers take product orders and refer them to Carex dealers.

The company provides product demonstrations along with training sessions that usually take place once a day, Higgs said. Physical therapists are targeted at hospitals.

It advertisers in Medical Product Sales, Homecare, Home Health Care Dealer, Rehab Management and Physical Therapy and exhibits at physical theraphy trade shows and the National Home Health Care spring and fall conventions.

The walker weighs five pounds and has a single button folding mechanism. It lists for under $50.

The crutch has a patient height scale printed on the product and each model is assembled with crutch pads, handgrips and tips. The self locking hardware requires no tools to adjust the handgrip, according to Carex. It is available in tall adult, adult and youth sizes. It lists for under $20.
